MEXICO CITY (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – 07th November, 2022) Residents of the indigenous Peruvian group of Cuninico have seized one other river vessel with over 70 vacationers on board, media report.
As of Sunday morning, there was no water or meals on board the ship, the RPP (Radio Programas del Peru) broadcaster stated. The passengers embody over two dozen kids.
On Friday, the Cuninico indigenous group launched greater than 100 vacationers taken hostage on the Cuninico river on Thursday.
According to some media stories, the group has already seized a number of vessels, as a type of protest over the federal government’s inaction in coping with the oil spill into the Cuninico river that occurred on September 16 and killed three locals, together with two kids.
The indigenous Peruvian group of Cuninico has claimed that it had reached out to the federal government 46 instances, demanding that the problem get resolved.
The oil spill occurred as a result of a rupture of a pipeline of Peruvian state-run oil firm Petroperu. The firm stated that the oil spill was the results of deliberate makes an attempt to wreck the pipeline. It initiated an emergency plan and vowed to coordinate the supply of consuming water and meals for the residents of the affected communities.
Peruvian Prime Minister Anibal Torres Vasquez has stated that the oil spill that triggered the catastrophic air pollution of the river was the results of deliberate actions on the a part of the locals looking for compensation from the federal government or oil firms.
